Volunteer Profile - Vicki O'Brien
Vicki started volunteering for Inverell Meals on Wheels just a few months ago. Recent retirement had afforded her more time and she felt the need to give back to her community.
“It is easy, the people are lovely, and the staff are welcoming.” Vicki said.
Vicky said she was partnered with a friend and was able to learn while observing and helping. “The staff are so helpful and understanding and the customers faces light up when you visit them”. Vicki ended up helping a neighbour and so her rapport was instant. For other customers it has taken time for them to build trust with her. Some clients just accept the meals, others enjoy a sit and chat.
“It is a lovely way to reconnect in retirement”.
