Inverell Community Support and Inverell Meals on Wheels Announce Merger to Enhance Community Impact

Inverell Community Support and Inverell Meals on Wheels are pleased to announce that, effective Friday 1 November 2024, they are merging to form a more resilient organisation dedicated to serving the Inverell community.
The merged entity, to be known as Inverell Community Support, is taking this step in response to the increasingly challenging operational landscape for small community-owned organisations, due to government reforms and growing competition.
Kylie Webster, Inverell Community Support Services Manager, commented: “As a unified entity, the merger will better position us to sustain our operations and increase our capacity. By consolidating efforts and resources, streamlining operations, and eliminating unnecessary administrative duplication, we will become more efficient and effective.”
She further added: “During the transition, it will be business as usual, with no changes to service delivery or staffing.”
Rebecca Brennan, Inverell Meals on Wheels Manager, emphasised the shared mission and values of both organisations, stating: “Importantly, the merged organisation will remain proudly community-owned and operated—existing for the community, by the community. The commitment to providing high-quality support remains our shared priority, and the merged organisation will continue its long-standing service to the Inverell community with renewed strength and unity. This forward-thinking decision ensures our long-term commitment to serving them.”
The two organisations will keep clients, employees, volunteers and other community stakeholders informed of the merger process including information forums for employees and volunteers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the reason for the merger? How will this merger benefit clients and the Inverell community?
From Friday 1 November 2024, Inverell Community Support and Inverell Community Meals on Wheels are merging combining our strengths to serve our community as a more resilient and impactful organisation.
We believe this is good news for our organisations and the Inverell community. By coming together we will streamline our operations, pool our efforts and resources and eliminate unnecessary administrative duplication.
Importantly, we will remain proudly community-owned and operated – existing for the community, by the community.
What will the merged organisation be known as?
In the future, our organisation will be known as Inverell Community Support. This reflects our shared focus on continuing to support the Inverell community and providing a range of home and community care services including Meals on Wheels.
How is the operational environment and Government reform impacting our organisations?
Major Aged Care reforms are continuing and being driven by the Federal Government’s aged care agenda, which aims to improve the quality and safety of care while increasing accountability and transparency across the sector.
However, this also means more regulatory burdens. These shifts are impacting all aged care providers but are hitting the smallest providers the hardest.
Will the services customers currently receive be affected by the merger? Will there be changes in the staff or volunteers who currently support me?
No, at this time it will be business as usual with no changes to delivery of services or staffing - we are committed to ensuring minimal disruption to services.
